If you sell pre-order items alongside in-stock items — using Shopify payment terms, fulfilment holds, or a pre-order app — some orders will contain fulfilment line items that Shopify has placed on hold. EasyScan has two settings that let you pack these mixed orders smoothly. Both settings are in Settings → Fulfillment.
Allow packing of on hold orders
When this is on, on-hold items appear on the pack screen in their own section with an On hold badge, so you can see and scan them like any other item.
This setting only works in pack-only mode. It is disabled while Mark items as fulfilled is on, because Shopify does not allow a fulfilment to be created against a held fulfilment order.
Complete pack without on hold items
When this is on, EasyScan treats a pack as complete once every regular (non-held) item is scanned. Unscanned on-hold items no longer trigger the "Not all items are packed" warning, and if you use auto-complete, scanning the last regular item completes the pack and advances to the next order as normal.
Prerequisites:
Requires Allow packing of on hold orders to be switched on first
It is switched back off automatically if you turn off Allow packing of on hold orders, or turn on Mark items as fulfilled
If an order consists entirely of on-hold items, those items still need to be scanned — the skip only applies when the order has at least one regular item
Known limitation: fully held orders in cycle batches
Orders whose entire fulfilment order is on hold are still flagged as Faulty orders when you select a cycle batch. This is a Shopify platform constraint — Shopify rejects fulfilment creation against a held fulfilment order — and EasyScan cannot work around it.
Recommended pre-order workflow
Turn on both settings above
Run your packing cycle as normal — mixed orders complete once their in-stock items are scanned
Process fully held orders individually, one at a time, once their holds are released
