⚡ Quick Start: Hardware Setup

EasyScan works out-of-the-box with almost all modern hardware devices. Follow the quick steps below to verify your equipment.

1. Traditional Barcode Scanners (USB & Bluetooth)

The vast majority of hardware scanners act as a "keyboard wedge" (meaning they type numbers on a computer exactly like a physical keyboard). You can run a quick 60-second test to confirm yours is ready:

  1. Connect your hardware: Plug your scanner into your computer/tablet or pair it via Bluetooth.

  2. Open a text utility: Open any standard text application (e.g., Notepad, TextEdit, Microsoft Word, or Excel).

  3. Scan an item: Click inside the text area so a blinking text cursor appears, then scan any retail product barcode.

    • Success: If a string of numbers or letters appears instantly on your screen, your scanner is 100% compatible.

    • Troubleshooting: If nothing happens, verify the scanner is fully charged, turned on, and not accidentally paired to a different device nearby.

2. Scanning with a Mobile Device Camera

If you don't own a physical barcode scanner, you can use the built-in camera on your tablet or smartphone (iOS or Android).

  • How to open: Launch the official Shopify Mobile App, tap Store, select Apps, and launch EasyScan.

  • How to scan: From any EasyScan operational dashboard, tap the Barcode/Camera icon right next to the text entry field to activate your camera.

  • Minimum system requirements:

    • Shopify iOS / Android: Version 8.25.0 (iOS) / 8.24.0 (Android) or above.

    • Shopify Point of Sale (POS) iOS / Android: Version 5.32.0 (iOS) / 3.25.0 (Android) or above.

🏷️ Supported Barcode Formats (UPC, EAN, and more)

EasyScan natively reads all standard, globally recognized retail barcode formats. You do not need to convert or reformat your existing manufacturer codes.

  • UPC Codes: Fully supported. If your products use standard 12-digit Universal Product Codes (common in North America), EasyScan will scan and match them instantly to your Shopify catalog variants.

  • EAN Codes: Fully supported. Standard 13-digit European Article Numbers scan seamlessly.

  • Custom SKUs: If you don't use official UPC barcodes, you can type your custom alphanumeric SKUs directly into Shopify's barcode or SKU fields, and EasyScan will track them perfectly.

💡 Data Matching Tip: To ensure an instant match when scanning on the warehouse floor, make sure the exact 12-digit UPC number printed beneath your item's barcode is typed flawlessly into the Barcode field of that product variant inside your Shopify Admin dashboard

⚙️ Advanced Setup & Warehouse Control
