EasyScan SKU & Barcode

EasyScan SKU & Barcode

Getting started

Using EasyScan with Shopify POS

EasyScan integrates seamlessly with Shopify Point of Sale (POS), allowing your retail staff to look up product information, manage inventory, and handle stock takes directly from the sales floor using a mobile device or tablet.

📱 How to Launch EasyScan on Shopify POS

You can access EasyScan directly inside your Shopify POS app interface without needing to switch between different applications.

  1. Open the Shopify POS app on your iOS or Android device.

  2. Tap the More menu button (or navigate to your smart grid).

  3. Select Apps.

  4. Tap EasyScan from your installed application list to launch the interface.

🛡️ Device & System Requirements

To ensure a smooth interface experience, verify that your mobile hardware and Shopify software versions meet the following minimum requirements:

  • iOS Devices: Shopify POS version 5.32.0 or above.

  • Android Devices: Shopify POS version 3.25.0 or above.

📸 Scanning Methods on the Sales Floor

When using EasyScan on a mobile POS device, you have two flexible options for scanning items:

1. Built-In Device Camera

Perfect for quick lookups or minor inventory updates without carrying extra hardware.

  • Inside any active EasyScan dashboard, look for the text input field labeled "Barcode/SKU".

  • Tap the Camera/Barcode Icon directly next to the field to activate your device's built-in camera and scan a barcode tag.

2. Bluetooth Retail Scanners

For high-volume stocktakes or rapid inventory adjustments on the retail floor, pairing a dedicated Bluetooth scanner is highly recommended.

  • Because EasyScan recognizes external hardware as a direct keyboard input ("keyboard wedge"), any paired Bluetooth scanner that works with your mobile device will instantly pass data directly into the app's active barcode fields.

EasyScan Scanner (Add to Cart at Checkout)

  1. Add the "EasyScan scanner" tile to your POS smart grid (Shopify POS → smart grid → Add tile). Tapping it opens a scanner modal that stays open during checkout.

  2. Scan with hardware, the camera, or type into the modal's manual entry field — a matching Shopify barcode or SKU adds that variant to the cart at quantity 1.

  3. On the Pro plan, with barcode aliases enabled, scanning an alias adds the linked variant at the alias's configured quantity (up to 999) if no direct barcode/SKU match exists.

  4. If the same code matches more than one variant, EasyScan shows a list to pick from rather than guessing. Only active/unlisted products can be added.

  5. This tile is the only place EasyScan can add to the cart — barcodes scanned on Shopify's regular POS checkout screen are handled by Shopify directly and never reach EasyScan.

💬 Frequently Asked Questions

Can I run a full physical stocktake using Shopify POS?

Yes! Launching EasyScan inside POS gives you access to your standard operational dashboards. Your floor staff can walk the retail aisles, scan items using their mobile camera or a paired Bluetooth scanner, and update physical stock counts in real time.

Does scanning an item in EasyScan automatically add it to a customer's active POS shopping cart?

Yes, if you use the EasyScan scanner tile. Add the "EasyScan scanner" tile to your POS smart grid, then tap it during checkout to open the scanner modal — scanning a barcode, SKU, or (on the Pro plan) a barcode alias there adds the matching line item straight to the cart. Scans on Shopify's native POS screen (outside that tile) aren't seen by EasyScan, so keep the tile open while ringing up items you want EasyScan to resolve.

We have multiple retail locations. Will POS staff see the correct inventory?

Yes. EasyScan respects your Shopify location settings. Ensure your POS device is assigned to the correct physical location profile in your settings so that any inventory scans or updates modify the correct store footprint.
