🚫 What EasyScan Does Not Support
EasyScan does not support bills of materials (BOMs), assembly jobs, or automatic links between a finished product and its raw component parts.
If you fabricate products from multiple supplier components (for example, welding 20+ raw parts into a single finished Shopify SKU), EasyScan will not:
Define Recipes: Create rules like
"1 Finished SKU = Component A × 2 + Component B × 5".Automate Deductions: Deduct raw component stock when you finish assembling a build.
Automate Additions: Add finished-good stock into inventory directly from an assembly step.
Forecast Production: Suggest raw material purchase orders based on finished-good demand or production plans.
⚠️ Plan Clarity: This is not a limitation of your specific plan tier. Manufacturing BOM logic is outside the scope of what EasyScan offers across all plans (including Pro).
📦 What EasyScan Does Support
EasyScan excels at barcode scanning, pick/pack workflows, physical stocktakes, bin locations, purchase orders, and transfer orders for individual Shopify variants.
Capability / Operational Need | Supported? | Plan Level Required |
|---|---|---|
Buy & receive parts as individual SKUs (via Purchase Orders) | Yes | Advanced Plan and above |
Set Min/Max/MOQ thresholds per SKU | Yes | Advanced Plan and above |
Scan and count component stock during stocktakes | Yes | Standard Plan and above |
Fulfill customer orders (including bundle pick lists) | Yes | Standard Plan and above |
BOM, assembly building, or raw-to-finished conversion | No | Not Available |
🔄 Sales Bundles vs. Manufacturing BOMs
It is important to distinguish between selling a kit and manufacturing a product:
Sales Bundles (Shopify Bundles App): When a customer purchases a bundled kit on your store, EasyScan can show and guide your team to pick each individual component during fulfillment. This assists with shipping, not production.
Manufacturing BOMs: This involves ordering components, assembling them into a brand-new finished SKU, and needing stock levels and purchasing tied directly to that "recipe." EasyScan does not model this process today.
🛠️ Recommended Workarounds
Many merchant teams successfully manage a hybrid setup by using the following workflow:
Track Components: Add each raw component as its own individual variant in Shopify.
Manage Purchasing: Use EasyScan's Purchase Orders and Inventory Requirements to order and receive those raw SKUs.
Separate the Finished Good: Keep the finished assembly as a completely separate variant in Shopify.
Manual Stock Adjustments: Update the finished-good inventory numbers manually once a production build is completed (using EasyScan's Inventory Update tool or the Shopify Admin).
External Planning: Keep your complex BOM recipes and production planning in a spreadsheet or a dedicated ERP.
🎯 Is EasyScan a Good Fit for Your Business?
👍 A Great Fit If:
You need to scan, receive via POs, and fulfill orders for flat, individual SKUs (including tracking one standalone variant per raw component).
👎 A Poor Fit If:
Your core requirement is multi-level BOM tracking, automatic component consumption tracking, or automated raw material purchasing triggered by finished-product demand.
For advanced needs, we recommend using a dedicated manufacturing or ERP tool for your BOM/MRP data, and using EasyScan solely for warehouse scanning on the physical SKUs you track inside Shopify.
💬 Frequently Asked Questions
Is manufacturing support included in the Pro plan?
No. Upgrading to the Pro plan adds features like unlimited users, barcode aliases, and location-based access controls, it does not add manufacturing or BOM workflows.
Can I use Shopify Metafields to act as a BOM in EasyScan?
No. EasyScan does not read or utilise custom BOM metafields for purchasing, stock allocation, or assembly logic.
We sell both ready-made and fabricated items, can we still use EasyScan?
Yes! Many merchants utilise EasyScan exclusively for standard warehouse operations (like receiving and picking) on their Shopify SKUs, while keeping their BOM and production planning managed externally for their fabricated product lines.
Can we connect EasyScan to an external manufacturing system via API?
We do not currently offer a public API for EasyScan. However, we are constantly evaluating our roadmap based on merchant workflows! If you are looking to build a custom integration between EasyScan and a manufacturing tool/ERP, please get in touch with our team to share your specific use case.
