This guide explains the safest ways to reverse an Update inventory error without corrupting your data.
Method 1: The "Undo" option
If you realise the mistake immediately:
Go to Reports.
Find the latest Update inventory report
Select the report
Click "Undo" in the top right-hand corner
This opens the variants in the report in the "Update inventory" page with the quantities inverted.
Save the update to undo the previous action.
Method 2: The "Set" Command
This is the safest method if you have lost track of exactly what you scanned. Instead of trying to do the math (e.g., "I had 10, added 5, oh wait, I only have 12..."), just tell EasyScan the final correct number.
Open "Update Inventory":
Select the "Set" (Absolute) mode.
Count the Product:
Physically count how many items are actually on the shelf (e.g., 12 units).
Scan & Enter:
Scan the product.
Enter 12.
Save:
EasyScan will force the Shopify inventory to match "12", ignoring whatever mistakes happened in the previous 5 minutes.
Method 3: Reviewing the Activity Log
If you don't know who made the mistake or when it happened:
Go to Reports.
Filter by SKU: Search for the product that looks wrong.
Review the Timestamp:
Look for a spike in inventory (e.g.,
+50at 10:45 AM by User "Dave").
Correct It:
Now that you know the error size (+50), you can go to the "Update Inventory" tab and remove 50 units to balance the books.
FAQ
Q: Is there an "Undo Button" like in Word?
A: No. Because inventory data is synced live to Shopify (and potentially other channels), we cannot simply "Control-Z". You must perform a counter-action (a negative scan) or a "Set" action to correct the number.
Q: Will my mistake show up in reports?
A: Yes. The history log is a permanent record. It will show +50 followed by -50. This is good for auditing purposes as it proves the error was corrected.
